DO WE EACH HAVE A GUARDIAN ANGEL?  Personally, after much consideration I think the scriptures support the notion that we do each have a guardian angel. Jesus certainly did as we can see in Luke 22:43 “And there appeared to [Jesus] an angel from heaven, strengthening him”. Matthew 4:11 11 “Then the devil left him, and angels came and attended him.” Mark 1:13 13 “and he was in the wilderness forty days, being tempted by Satan. He was with the wild animals, and angels attended him.”
AND THERE WAS WAR IN HEAVEN We have seen that the divine angels are utterly reliable, faithful servants of the almighty.  We have also seen that the Hebrew and Greek words translated into English as angels may also be translated as messengers. Of course, on occasion, human messengers are not reliable so if we read of angels that sin then it should be obvious that these cannot be divine angels. In Revelations 12: 7-9 “Then war broke out in heaven…. The red dragon, the devil who was cast out onto earth and his angels with him.”  What do we make of this?  We know it cannot possibly be in God’s heaven else, as we have already acknowledged, it would make the Lord’s prayer a lie. So, we must realise that this is symbolic language being used to describe a future event that the apostle John saw in a vision of the future. Revelations 12: 12 “And then a great wonder appeared in heaven: A woman was clothed with the sun, and the moon was under her feet, and a crown of twelve stars was on her head. She was pregnant and cried out with pain, because she was about to give birth. Then another wonder appeared in heaven: There was a giant red dragon with seven heads and seven crowns on each head. He also had ten horns. His tail swept a third of the stars out of the sky and threw them down to the earth.” Take a step back and think about these words, does this sound real or visionary?  This is referring to the downfall of a future political power much like the vision of the downfall of the Roman empire seen by Daniel when he interpreted King Nebuchadnezzar’s dream Daniel 2:39-44. What about ‘Lucifer’?  This name pops up in conversation now and again but who or what is Lucifer?  Lucifer is not found in all bibles, it is not there in my own NIV, it is not in the RSV and I can only find it in the King James Version Isaiah 14:12. “12 How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! how art thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations!” (Sorry about that old Shakespearian English, we should have lost that years ago).   The Latin word for Lucifer is “light bearer” sometimes called “day-star” in modern versions. It escapes me as to why this lucifer guy was thought to be a devil, Satan or a fallen angel when Verse 4 of Isaiah 14 makes it perfectly clear that lucifer was the king of Babylon. 12 “How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! how art thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations!” Surely no one can possibly think of a Satan as a ‘light bearer’ or a ‘bringer of light’, Isaiah is simply describing the great downfall of the king of Babylon.
