ACTIVE ANGELS Angels take an active part in our lives. The very first recorded occasion of an angel helping us can be found in Genesis 16 Verse 7: Hagar and her son were in the desert dying of thirst but already God had plans for them, they were not going to perish from lack of water. An angel directed them to water. “The angel of the Lord found Hagar near a spring in the desert; it was the spring that is beside the road to Shur. 8 And he said, “Hagar, slave of Sarai, where have you come from, and where are you going?” “I’m running away from my mistress Sarai,” she answered. 9 Then the angel of the Lord told her, “Go back to your mistress and submit to her.” 10 The angel added, “I will increase your descendants so much that they will be too numerous to count.” In Genesis 19:1 we see that God sent angels to the city of Sodom to rescue Lot and his family before the city was destroyed by fire and brimstone. Exodus 23. V 20 is also interesting because clearly this is not only about one of God’s divine angels, it makes it clear in verse 21 that the angel is delivering a message directly from God (since my Name is in him). 20 “See, I am sending an angel ahead of you to guard you along the way and to bring you to the place I have prepared. 21 Pay attention to him and listen to what he says. Do not rebel against him; he will not forgive your rebellion, since my Name is in him. 22 If you listen carefully to what he says and do all that I say, I will be an enemy to your enemies and will oppose those who oppose you.” Isaiah 63. V 9. “In all their distress he too was distressed, and the angel of his presence saved them.”
